“This is the part of the story where Leila and Lee go on the run to the highlands and nearly die.”
Yellow Moon: The Ballad of Leila and Lee is a modern-day Bonnie and Clyde tale that follows the fortunes of two teenagers on the run. Silent Leila is an introverted girl with a passion for celebrity magazines. Stag Lee Macalinden is the deadest of dead-end kids in a dead-end town. They never meant to get mixed up in a murder... but shit happens and now they need a place to hide.
David Greig's script leaps from teenage romance to biting comedy via looming tragedy and epic redemption myth. With a stark DIY aesthetic, our production tells its story through a combination of verse, narration, dialogue and live original music, performed by two on-stage musicians.
Praise for Yellow Moon:
Yellow Moon: the Ballad of Leila and Lee enjoyed a sell-out and critically acclaimed run at Bristol's Alma Tavern in March 2011.
"Tightly and imaginatively directed, performed with razor-sharp timing, energy and brio from its excellent cast, it draws a huge response from an enthusiastic audience. As finely honed a piece of ensemble playing as you will see. ****"- Venue Magazine
"It’s Aha and Heat magazine meets red skies, deer and a yellow moon. It’s an irresistible piece of theatre."- Bristol Playgroup
"Poetic language... and powerful performances"- Guide2Bristol
The Company:
We are a company of five actors, two musicians, two directors, two producers, a great creative team, a vintage shotgun and endless pig hearts. Comprised of students from the University of Bristol, In Short Productions had great success at last year's Fringe with "Edges" at C Venues, where we won both critical acclaim and a Three Weeks award.
Why we need you:
Winning a proposal to receive funding from Bristol University's DramSoc has made it possible for us to pay for our venue and programme entry. However, we still need money to cover performance rights!
We have great faith in our little show. Pledging money to us means more people will get to see what we're about, and will provide our young company with the invaluable experience of putting on a show in an exciting, professional environment.
If you have any questions at all before pledging, please ask away! No donation could possibly be too small, which means of course that no donation could possibly be too large. Regardless, donations large and small will be spent responsibly on this lovely old show.
Brilliant.
Many many thanks in advance,
In Short Productions
