Arcola Theatre, 1st-5th March 2011
"Showcasing original and ambitious new writing" - British Theatre Guide
For one week only, at the Arcola’s new-found home, Word:Play 4 will be kick-starting Studio 2 with an injection of revolutionary theatre from the best new writing talent.
Following the critical, sell-out success of previous incarnations, our flagship project Word:Play will be championing the next generation of new writing with six specially-commissioned fifteen-minute plays inspired by the word “Revolution”.
Vive la revolución!
For this cycle, the playwrights are: Daniel Kanaber (Coalition at Theatre503; PLAYlist, Latitude 2010), Jacqueline McCarrick (shortlisted for Bruntwood Prize 2006), Katie McCullough (Royal Court Young Writers' Programme), Siân Owen (winner of the Oxford Playhouse New Playwriting Competition 2010), Becky Prestwich (shortlisted for the Pearson Playwright Scheme 2009) and Daniel Smith (Old Vic New Voices' transatlantic Arden Project).
Praise for previous Word:Plays:
"A consistently high standard of both writing and performance… A launchpad for top quality new talent."
British Theatre Guide
"Six plays, one sublime evening!... The word: vengeance. The result: magnificence... The cast were superb and captivating... Were it possible, I would be in the audience every night of this production. It's that good."
Remote Goat * * * * *
"One of the best collection of shorts I have seen in a long while - each one of these plays is excellent."
