We are Rachel Hirons, a 22 year old female writer and Stef O'Driscoll a 24 year old award winning director. Our aim is to write and create exciting, innovative theatre that explores, questions and portrays the often hidden depths of human nature and behaviour. When Women Wee is our first play aimed to diffuse the misconceptions between the genders and ease the pressures that society can create resulting in a 'Them and Us' mentality.
“When Women Wee” is a comedy with an all female cast set in the private space of a female public toilet. Here we offer an opportunity to voyeur at the private lives of all types of women: The young, the old, the divorced, the drunk and the depressed. The play is a comedy and an attempt to demonstrate how similar we all can be in a very basic way. For women to see how familiar the actions of others are. For men to witness how similar the sexes are and for older members to realise how some things just never change.
The rehearsal and development stage of this play was shown at the Camden Fringe Festival and The Lyric in Hammersmith. The response was overwhelming and was described as 'Therapeutic' and 'Hilarious' by people of all walks and ages. We would use any funding you offer to enable our play and cast to travel to the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre 2011. We have already secured a 3 week long run at the prestigious Underbelly Theatre from 23.00pm until midnight every night. This is a prime comedy slot and would enable our new company to ensure our message is portrayed well and strong to entertain, disarm, re-assure and ultimately bring people together through the arts.
