A transnational theatrical adventure...

This November, we've been invited back to Zagreb and the Nu:Write Theatre Festival for a special cross-cultural, transnational, bilingual collaboration: TALES OF TWO CITIES.

But - and this is where you come in - we need to raise funds to make this a reality; to pay for playwrights' flights and the artists' subsistence during the festival in Croatia... So if you can spare a fiver, tenner or even a hundred pounds(!), it all makes a difference. Please WeFund this project now and help us realise our second foray into international theatre.

Big love and many thanks,

Adam and Hannah x

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."
Charles Dickens, Tale of Two Cities

Box of Tricks and Nu:Write join forces to stage Tales of Two Cities: a transnational theatrical adventure in six parts. The Anglo-Croat company present six 15-minute monologues inspired by place: three London plays in English, three Zagreb plays in Croatian. Celebrating these two great capital cities, this is theatre without boundaries: a cross-cultural, bilingual collaboration that unites the very best of both worlds.

Read the Blog - http://talesof2cities.posterous.com - for the latest updates from England and Croatia and a unique insight into the transnational collaborative process leading up to the Nu:Write Theatre Festival this November.

Snapshots

Snapshots is a wraparound project: we're asking the public to send photos of London and Zagreb, striking images that evoke what their city means to them. The photos will make up a gallery of images presented on the blog and at the Nu:Write Theatre Festival.

Playwrights are then invited to write a one-page play inspired by an image of their choice to be played by the Anglo-Croat company for Tales of Two Cities: Snapshots at Nu:Write 2011.

London Tales

SHOVE, Kenneth Emson
"And I started to feel like I was about to fall. Like I was about to come crashing to the floor and this feeling took me over." The story of how we fell.

STRUCK BY LOVE/TRAIN, Evan Placey
Sarah fell in love today. Before she fell under a train. But she needs to break up with her husband. One woman's journey to find true love on the London underground.

DAVID, Daniel Kanaber
“It's amazing how much life fits into so little time”. A portrait of one summer and its impact on a lifetime.

Zagreb Tales

Playwrights: Vedrana Klepica, Olja Lozica, Srdjan Sandic

ZAGREB, MON AMOURE, Srdjan Sandic
ZagrebBoy27 logs on and plugs in to the worldwide web. Every morning. Every night. He is angry and frustrated and tells a story about Zagreb, love, sex, politics and the failing economy.

Further details of the other Zagreb plays coming soon...

Tales of Two Cities

"I've always depended on the kindness of strangers..." A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams Here at Box of Tricks we have long benefitted from the kindness of strangers and friends, enabling us to produce work of the very highest quality. For Tales of Two Cities, the Nu:Write Theatre Festival are providing flights and accommodation for the directors and actors involved. However, there are many other attendant costs involved in producing new work internationally... We need to pay for rehearsal space, kindly provided at a discounted rate by Firehouse Productions. £200 We need to pay for the writers' flights to Zagreb. £160 We need to pay for travel to the airport. £140 We want to pay expenses to the artists involved. £250 Total = £750 We have currently raised just £50 and have another 93% (or £700) of our WeFund target yet to achieve in just over two weeks. With crowdfunding, every pound really does make a difference and takes us a step closer to achieving our target. But if we fail to reach £750, we won't get a penny. So if you're a fan of the arts, with a particular penchant for theatre, please support this ambitious project by pledging a fiver, tenner, whatever you can afford... You can get tickets, signed scripts, a postcard, or even a Nu:Write pencil, depending on what you pledge. We know money's pretty scarce at the moment, but the beauty of crowdfunding means it doesn't take a lot to make a huge difference. So please take a minute now, before you forget, to visit our WeFund campaign page, watch the video and play your part in staging the next generation of new writing. After all, it's not every day you get to release your inner philanthropist to send three new plays to Croatia for an international collaboration... Or if money really is too tight to mention (and we know that feeling!), please take a minute to follow the project, give us a shout-out on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, whatever your social medium of choice may be... Or just tell your mates by e-mail or using word-of-mouth or whatever. Right, that's it. We've made our case. Now please show us your love... Thanks a million, Hannah and Adam x Box of Tricks
