To create a purpose built performing arts studio space in the town of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire to allow more children and young people and adults to access affordable classes, experiences and tuition in the performing arts with professional performers, many of whom have performed on the West End.
We are currently running out of rented halls and are constantly being moved around for other functions and so giving the children their own space will allow them to have more continuity and also give them a building that feels like a community.
The studios will be run by Gemma Hodgson (stage name Gemma Gallacher) who is not only a professional performer herself but also a teacher in, drama, singing, tap, ballet, jazz and contemporary dance and examiner and teacher trainer in drama, singing and tap dance for the British Stage Dance Association. The studios will provide a base for all of Gemma's classes and once opened Gemma has been offered the opportunity to trial a brand new post 16 full time diploma in the performing arts bringing further training opportunities for young people in the arts to the area
We are hoping to have a dance studio fully equipped with sprung dance floors, mirrors and barres and also a small black box drama studio.
The space will be used for various performing arts classes but when not in use can be used by local community groups for a small and affordable hire fee to allow the whole community to access the amenities. This studio would create some employment and volunteering opportunities in the area.
We also hope to set up a Community Arts, run with the help of and for the members who attend, allowing those children, young people and adults who can not traditionally afford training and experiences in the performing arts to access first rate training and chances to perform or work backstage in projects, whether plays, musicals or pieces written by the community group themselves. We would aim to reflect our community in these pieces and bring relevant pieces of theatre to our community.
For our funders we will send you a letter by e-mail to say thank you for your support for this worthwhile project so please make sure you leave a contact e-mail or your wefund profile name so we can send one to you.
