We will be creating our sixth show, a new version of The Secret Garden in December. We have actors and artists, we have venues booked, we have arts council funding which covers round 40% of our costs, we have rehearsal space from our lovely co-producers Dorchester Arts and we are being commissioned by Lighthouse, Poole's Centre for the Arts, but we still need to find more money in order to make the show that we want to make, the show that we want you to see...

We are based in beautiful Dorset, and there is not much theatre produced here. We tour to theatres and arts centres around the UK as well as taking the show to village halls with local rural touring networks. We are very passionate about what we do, and we work very hard to make each show, producing every project ourselves.

We are looking for £2,500 which will cover all of the costs for the set, props, costumes and puppets. We are very cost efficient, using recycled and found materials where possible, and minimal set, but we need a little money to create theatrical magic!

You can help us to achieve this by making a donation of any size, from £2 to £1000. We need your help and support to make this a high quality show that we can be proud of.

Yeeehaaaa!!!!

We made our target. THANKS SO MUCH everyone!! You can keep pledging if you like, we are still looking for money to cover the costs of our Education pack and the design of our posters and fliers so rest assured that any extra money we raise on We Fund will go directly towards that and we can give Jodie a slightly higher costume budget which will please her no end! Oh, we're so happy. Thank you thank you thank you. xxxx

So Close

Posted on 25/10/2011

We're so close to the target, I thought we wouldn't make it, but now it looks like we might! Thanks so much to all who have given so generously. We started designing the poster today and Jodie's set designs have come along further. Draft 2 of the script is just being finished and we will meet with our dramaturg again in just over a week.

WOW!

Thanks everyone. You're very kind and we promise to do you all justice. Lynne and I attended a study day for The Secret Garden centenary and the world experts on Frances Hodgson Burnett and The Secret Garden were in attendance. They are all looking forward to our production. we were able to ask them lots of questions on matters that had been puzzling us. We are hoping that some of them will be contributing to our education pack. Jodie has been to AUCB and the students have all been given costume designs to start thinking about. Tamsin

A quarter of the way there...

Posted on 11/10/2011

We're a quarter of the way there in terms of cash, but over a quarter of our time has gone, so the pressure is on now to find more donors. We are so grateful to those who have already donated. We had a meeting with Phil Porter, our dramaturg last week and we went through our first draft of the script. Phil's advice was very useful. "Make Mary like a detective" he said. "Of course" we thought. Sometimes a really simple bit of advice just makes things click into place, and this was one. The students at AUCB have been assigned their characters and are getting down to making patterns for the costumes. However, at this stage we don't know if we will have the budget to realise all of these beautiful designs. Maybe some of the actors will have to be naked! Help clothe our actors...donate to our We Fund campaign!

Exciting meeting with designer and puppet maker

Posted on 01/10/2011

Hello Angel Exit supporters, Yesterday we had a wonderful meeting with our designer Jodie Gardner and our puppet maker and consultant Polly Beestone. Jodie went through her beautiful designs for the show with us prior to her heading to the Arts University College Bournemouth where she will be supervising students on the costume making course to make the costumes we will be using in the show. We can't wait to see the finished articles as we are sure they are going to be stunning. We then met with Polly who is creating Robin, Fox and Archibald Craven puppets for the show. She brought along some prototypes which we had a play with to see how they worked and try them out for size. The Fox is full of character already and the Robin looks very cheeky. We plan to use a puppet version of Mary's Uncle in some of the scenes where he is travelling abroad and the puppet Polly has made is lovely. Please keep spreading the word about our We Fund campaign - and don't be afraid to just donate £2 to our project - if lots of you donate just £2 we will reach our target and be able to pay for our costumes, set, props and puppets, Thank you for dropping by! More updates soon! Best wishes Lynne and Tamsin X

Thanks

So, we're off. 4% raised. There's still quite a lot to go and it's quite daunting, but we really must thank everyone who's donated so far. We were thinking if we could just find 1250 people who would donate £2 each then we'd be there. The key is in finding lots of people, so if you can pass this link on to anyone you know who appreciates live theatre and performance then we'd be grateful. We have meetings with our puppet designer and costume/set designer on Friday. We will report back with the latest news and images, because this is what we are asking you to support. the more money we can raise through We Fund , the better our design element will be. Click this link if you'd like to read our latest newsletter. http://sut1.co.uk/l/c.php?c=10115&ct=132284 more soon. x
