After two successful runs at Theatre503 earlier this year, we are taking our show "Pushing Up Poppies" by Kieran Lynn to the Hill Street Theatre for this years Edinburgh Festival.
Pushing up Poppies is a dark comedy set in the trenches during the First World War.
Four men are left standing
Men who are weary and traumatised
Men on the brink of insanity
Men who can hardly remember their own names
As one day merges into another, they try to find new topics of conversation, in an attempt
to distract themselves from the living hell they are trapped in.
Beautifully directed by Hannah Chissick, Pushing up Poppies is a must-see production for anyone but particularly those with an interest in the lives of soldiers during the most harrowing time of their lives.
'A masterpiece... combining comedy, irony and considerable profundity'
- Three Weeks Magazine
'Takes a fresh look at the familiar and very dark period of human history. A piece of work that says 'Yes, we do remember'.'
- Scotsman
Pushing Up Poppies is proud to support Poppyscotland at the Festival.
Poppyscotland is Scotland’s leading veteran’s charity, ensuring that ex-service personnel and their families get the support that many urgently need as they adjust to life on civvy street.
Whether someone is struggling to cope with a catastrophic battlefield injury, or living with emotional scars that haunt them everyday, Poppyscotland is there, providing immediate and practical assistance.
While we’re perhaps best known for the iconic Scottish Poppy Appeal each November, the demand for our services comes 365 days a year. Sadly, as a result of recent conflicts, that demand is increasing every day, but you and the money you raise can make a real difference.
