Inspired by a true story, Princess introduces us to Lily Fortune, the daughter of a wealthy merchant and once part of the high society, who after being abandoned by her fiancé on their wedding day has never left her house. The doctors say she is in a state of psychosis. The wedding cake has been left to rot on the table, the decorations to be covered in dust and the door ajar for the day the groom returns, which Lily is convinced he will.

Princess is the inaugural production of Geranium Theatre Company. It has been developed through extensive research and workshops over a period of six months.
The play will be performed at the Camden Fringe and Stockholm Fringe (STOFF) Festivals in August 2011 and we now need to raise the funds for our production costs and to be able to transport our cast and crew over to Stockholm.

Third day of intense rehearsals

Posted on 02/08/2011

Day three of the intensive rehearsals: Today we had a light design meeting with Melina, Karen, Katerina and Sakura. Then Emma and Melody showed their research before Disa joined them to work on the second scene - Kyrie under Melina’s direction. They broke the scene down into units and talked about the actioning and needs of the characters, then tried it out on their feet a couple of times. Tomorrow they will be taking on the biggest, longest scene of the play: Credo. Stay tuned….

Second day of intense rehearsals

Posted on 02/08/2011

On the second day of our rehearsals our designer Katerina Angelopoulou came in to fit some of the costumes on two of the actresses, and our video artist Lisa Miller came in to get some ideas for visuals to use. Then actresses Emma and Melody put up mind maps on the walls of the rehearsals studio with the results from their research of weddings, catholic wedding masses and the council shutting down buildings. During the rehearsals of the opening scene there seemed to be a conspiracy amongst everyone’s tummies because they were all making a racket together, causing the actors to switch between being in tears due to the scene from being in tears of laughter every five minutes. Thankfully Melina, our director managed to navigate them through it.

First day of intense rehearsals

Posted on 01/08/2011

As we go into the final, intensive stage of rehearsals for Princess, before the opening night on 14th August, all creative met today for an electric Production Meeting. Everyone is clearly getting very excited faced with the imminent performances; ideas were flying across the table at breakneck speed and deadlines were confirmed, as were further meetings to finalise marketing, costume and set designs. Costume & set designs are looking amazing, costumes are being fitted this week and we even have the wedding dress for our main character! The set is due to be completed by early into our second week of intense rehearsals so the actors can get accustomed to acting in the space with the props and the costumes. The videos and sound clips will be recorded this coming week so they can be edited in time for final rehearsals on the 11th and 12th August. All in all, everything is coming together and we're very pleased with the way things are going. Can't wait for the next two weeks to proceed so we can see how all the elements are going to make one whole, brilliant production!
