Raucous. Heart-wrenching. Badass. She's an American pop princess. He's a depraved Cockney rocker. Preaching the filth and mashing up hits from Beyonce to Bowie, Pistol & Jack will grope your soul and bring you to your knees..
Pistol & Jack are cabaret artists who perform character comedy spiked with their own special brand of mashed-up pop songs inventively woven together and performed like you’ve never heard them before.
Having taken over both London and Croatia, they are now on a path to smash up the Edinburgh Fringe 2011, every night at the Assembly Rooms in August. However, due to their manager (Pistol's estranged father) abandoning them, a run of bad luck with several record companies (who refuse to respond to their queries), and a few super-injunctions against Jack, the pair are hard-up and require financial support from their fans and stalkers to help them get to Scotland.
Funding support of £1,000 would make a nice dent in the £8,000 budget, helping to cover venue and administration fees for their slot at Assembly, accommodation for Pistol, Jack, and their rag-tag tech team, obscenely fabulous costumes, press and marketing costs, and more. If you'd like to donate beyond the target here to help cover the rest of our budget, please contact us on info@pistolandjack.com. (The deadline is only set for after the Fringe finishes to allow for more time and opportunity to fund-raise.)
More about the show:
In their new show, SMASH*GLAM*SEX*MUSIC, Pistol & Jack share their stories of the super-injunctions, Jewish pop groups, ex-Presidents, jackals, and stage dads that they’ve encountered clawing their way towards celebrity as the world’s only Anglo-American Male-Female Pop-Rock Mash-Up Cabaret-Comedy Double-Act.
Pistol and Jack’s twisted co-dependent relationship might seethe with hurt and betrayal, but their shared religion of zeitgeist idols and a cut-throat desperation for superstardom keeps them together. SMASH*GLAM*SEX*MUSIC is like ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ meets ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf’, and explores the dark and deluded side of almost-fame, exposing the ruins that are left when the glitter and champagne run out.
Pistol & Jack curate and host a monthly Time Out Critics’ Choice variety night, Pistol & Jack’s Sunday Service, at the Soho Theatre featuring performers like Scott Capurro, Dusty Limits, and Patti Plinko & The Maddening. They have also recently performed at Duckie, Lounge on the Farm Festival, Madame Jojo’s, Bistrotheque, and as far as Zagreb, Croatia. They’re huge in Croatia.
‘Hilarious... Solid characterisation, big laughs, and impressive musicality.’ (Time Out, Critics' Choice)
‘If there’s a better and funnier live mashup act out there, we haven’t seen them... See them now before they become famous overnight.’ (Londonist)
‘Sublime talent, humour, and intelligence.’ (Fringe Report)
‘The expression “modern cabaret” gets thrown around a lot these days, but few people can back it up with their goods to the same extent that Pistol and Jack can...’ (Erotic Review)
