This spring First Floor Theatre presents Mummy Mafia in association with Nottingham Playhouse, a fresh new comedy by Rachael Young, Leah Chillery & Natalya Brown.Mummy Mafia sees wannabe yummy mummies, Jessica and Trisha and working class, straight-talking Siobhan battling class politics, racial identity by the school gates. Jessica and Trisha send their allegedly perfect offspring to an exclusive private school in Nottingham’s wealthy suburb The Park, NG1. The playground is their place to gossip and gloat over their latest 4×4, how much money their husbands are making and the latest parenting scheme they are piloting. All is well in NG1 or at least it is until someone arrives to bring the tone down.Outspoken Siobhan arrives at the school with her son Cregg and immediately Jessica and Trisha have their mummy mafia guns blazing. It’s not just the school’s reputation that is at stake here, it’s their own. As these women plot to have Siobhan removed from the school, they begin to discover that their idyllic lives are maybe not all they are cracked up to be.Mummy Mafia was commissioned by Nottingham Playhouse in April 2011 as part of their programme of developing new work. This spring First Floor Theatre will be developing Mummy Mafia into a full length play and producing a small-scale, development tour within the Midlands including The Drum in Birmingham and The Core, Corby.First Floor Theatre are Nottingham based, engaging audiences in the unexpected through innovative performance and participation. First Floor’s work aims to promote cross-cultural dialogue, community cohesion and connect with people who are potentially excluded from the arts. First Floor has a commitment to developing new and diverse work and supporting emerging artists in the East Midlands. We are excited to embark on the new project and your help will support the cast & creative team of emerging female artists to tour to venues committed to culturally diverse programming and development of new audiences. By building relationships with venues and programmers in the Midlands, First Floor hope to secure future tour dates and develop audiences for our work and especially reaching those groups who are currently under represented in mainstream theatre, such as women from Black & Minority Ethnic communities.
