 I have been working on the most amazing community project in co-ordination with Brent Irish Advisory Services and a group of enthusiastic Irish Traveller women.

It is a jewellery project entitled 'This is Me'.The aim of the project is to encourage the women to socialise outside of their sites, to mix with the wider community, to develop confidence and to allow them to have a safe and friendly environment to chat and relax every week.Little is known about Irish Traveler Culture in the wider community, with the exception of what has been seen on "My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding", and what is read in the tabloids.

Yet it is a distinct and rich culture and the women are keen to share their experiences.The aim of this project is to produce a publication, which talks about the project, about the participants and their culture.This publication will also show how community projects are not only a valuable experience for the participants but also the artists who lead them.

The book will have a mix of the work created by the participants and the work I have made, inspired by the process of the project.We have a great team of people trying to make this project a success, a wonderful photographer, graphic artist, social workers and a make up artist!But we need help toward the printing of this book!!!!!!

On friday we had a great day of photos for the book!!! Not only did we have a wonderful photographer Jennika Argent, but Siwan Hill also came to do all our make up, to help us look fab for the day!!! These incredibly talented professionals not only did a great job, but they also did it for free, I am constantly amazed at peoples generosity to this project! thanks girls!

well, so you might be thinking, why should i give money to these people???? well, first of all, let me say, such an amazing team of people have given their time and expertise in helping this project succeed!! and we are nearly there! all that reminds, is the printing of the FANTASTIC book!!!! Why so much money you ask? actually, this is not the full cost of the printing, but it is a lot of it. I am putting EVERY last penny i have into this, as I REALLY believe that this project is a positive thing. What the MOST exciting thing (to me) about this project is the confidence I have seen develop in the women who have taken part, women whose aim at the beginning of the project was simply to have somewhere off the site to go to every week. Now they are growing in confidence and looking to the future, looking at how this project can develop and grow the way they want to. So how can this book help i hear you ask?! This book will act as a showcase, to the women, for the project and also to the concept of working with communities.
