(NB- Don;t be scared by the length of the video; the second half is a live performance, just for this project)

I am very proud of my third self produced studio album 'Mayflower' which has been made over the last year with the generous help of family, friends and acquaintances.
Many people have given their time, skills and resources to bring this project to this point and often for nothing in return.

What I have is a completed album, with sleeve artwork but no more resources to produce hard copies of a standard that I believe it deserves to be made.

The album will be available online but I still believe in the importance of physical CDs, artwork, and sleeve notes for the fan. The CDs I will sell at gigs and through the not-for-profit Silvery Records who I am associated with.

My approach to music is organic and wherever possible self sufficient and raising money in this way feels like the right thing to do. Rather than borrow from a bank I want to raise money through fan pledges.

So, what's in it for you?

Any contribution, however small is appreciated and I will put your name in the list of people I thank who have helped to make the record. Just say how you'd like to be referred to.

£5 - Anybody pledging £5 will have their name or pseudonym in the 'thankyou' section of the CD inlay notes AND a free EP.

£10 - A Thankyou and a copy of the new album.

£50 - Signed copies of the new album & Asthill Grove.

£100 - I will make a personalised recording of the song of your choice (one of mine or a cover) and dedicate it to you for your exclusive personal enjoyment/amusement!

£250 - I will come and play a house concert for you for free OR I will write a song for you where you choose the subject material!

Thanks,
Wes.

Drew and I have been recording some more tracks for the EP that will be available exclusively to people pledging £50 or more. One of them is a tune that my friend Adam introduced me to. It's a Ralph Hodgson poem called 'Time, You Old Gypsy Man' and we heard a version by Sean Tyrrell and there are a few others but I've tried to put my own twist on it. We're hoping to get a bit of percussion from Ben on it too. I've also put down a version of Richard and Linda Thompson's 'Dimming of the Day', a song that I love. I've tried to mix that up by playing it in 3/4 time instead of 4/4 as it appears of the recordings I have. I'm having an interview with Warren Manger from the Coventry Evening Telegraph on Thursday about this WeFund project for some thing on his online blog and possibly something in the local music section of the paper too, fingers crossed. Only one taker for the personal dedication recording yet but I know they're a huge Jonny Cash fan so I hope I'm in safe hands there with the song they choose! Please remember to pass on the link to this page to anyone you may think would be interested in the music and want to support independent musicians, thanks, wes

Great Start!

On day two and a third of the total reached. That's wonderful, thank you so much to everyone who has pledged so far. I hoped you enjoyed the video that Paul from Microstu and I made earlier this week. Paul put a lot of his time in to making that with me that could have been spent at his proper job! I'm currently making a little EP of some covers and extra stuff for those of you pledging over £50. If you don't let me know otherwise I'll credit you in the album sleeve with your name as I know it, Thanks, w p.s. I'm not sure why funders can't leave comments but I will try and find out if I can change that.

We Fund Project is Launched!

A couple of days with Garfield Mayor in his Rooftent studios and we have the tracks mastered. You can hear a couple of them on my bandcamp page http://wesfinch.bandcamp.com/album/mayflower. This is the second time I've sat in on a mastering session and although I know a lot more than I did the first time it's still quite a dark art. Nevertheless, Garfield talked me through the process as he does it and we made some subtle but important changes to Drew's mixes and are happy with the results. One track, a re-interpretation of Asthill Grove's 'Aint We The Lucky Ones?' we have decided to drop from the album, to remix and make available to fans on the mailing list as an exclusive. I'm looking forward to getting it out and heard and hearing all your responses. w
