As soon as we step outside we share the experience of placing ourselves in a landscape. Our response to this place might be, consciously or unconsciously fond, indifferent, familiar, of delight, unease or awe. We might feel easy, secure, scared or inspired..... In other words, as varied as the landscapes we find ourselves in. Landscape of Change brings together 10 artists whose practice is concerned in some way with observing, recording or responding to change in the landscape.
The artists exhibiting in Landscape of Change are from across the UK. The works are diverse, using in a variety of media including painting, installation, photography, video and sculpture. The artists were all selected from submissions by curator Penny Sadubin. The exhibition will be held in London between 27th August and 18th September 2011.
Throughout the exhibition the audience can sense the ever changing experience of our human relationship with place and landscape. Natural processes, seasonal change, human intervention causing physical changes, and even the uncertain possibilities of climatic change. Cycles of different lengths and events taking place around us, because of us, despite of us. What is certain is that the arrow of time drives ever forward and nothing will remain the same forever.
It promises to be an interesting, inspiring and thought provoking exhibition with appeal to all ages. The audience will be able to contribute their own responses towards the exhibition, building up a fascinating picture of public feeling and the way we respond to the landscapes of our lives.
Artists commonly fund their own opportunities to create, share and show their own work. At the moment this exhibition is being 100% funded by the artists involved. The money pledged via WEFUND will enable us to:
• obtain AV equipment required for the show
• promote the exhibition more widely and draw in a bigger audience
• produce postcards from the exhibition
• give a subsidy to the artists transporting work from outside of London
• include an interactive display where the audience can leave their responses to the themes of the show.
