Rough Magic Theatre are creating a brand new toy theatre show of Hansel & Gretel with original script, music and artwork. This is to be performed in a theatre decorated with real liquorice allsorts. We are taking it to the prestigious Toy Theatre Festival in Harderwijk, The Netherlands, "Vischmarkt Papierentheater Festival". This is going to be a big boost for us in terms of getting our work known.

We are being provided with food and accommodation, but the festival is unpaid and we really need the funds to get to the event. In an ideal world we would like to recoup some of the making costs too. Please scroll down for more information and perks for you if you give.

Rough Magic Theatre is an independent theatre company in North Yorkshire specialising in family shows with puppets, live action and original music. We have delighted audiences across the U.K. with our unique and spectacular visuals and our low-tech. ingenuity for 12 years.
This June, we are creating a brand new toy theatre show for the renowned “Vischmarkt Papierentheater Festival” in The Netherlands. It is a version of Hansel & Gretel with a new script, original music and original artwork and it will be Rough Magic Theatre’s first foray into the marvellous world of toy theatre. Not only will the show be performed in the only real liquorice decorated toy theatre in the world, but the show itself will be a gripping tale of adventure, danger and magical wonder in the best tradition of the Brothers Grimm.

This is a fantastic opportunity for Rough Magic Theatre to expand their repertoire, reach new audiences in The Netherlands and expand their profile at home and abroad. This show will not only reach a truly international audience of toy theatre enthusiasts in The Netherlands, but will go on to be an excellent tool to deliver learning and entertainment in schools across the U.K. The toy theatre has a long history in itself and can be used to teach today’s children about the way of life of generations past. Producing toy theatre shows of their own will also teach children skills in the fields of art & design, music, engineering, mathematics, English language, English Literature, speaking and listening, drama, foreign languages, the possibilities are practically endless.
