Four emerging artists are showing their work in a pop-up exhibition at Grey Area Gallery in Brighton between 16-18 Decmber 2011.
We are hoping to raise money to help us to cover essential costs that are incurred when installing an exhibition.

GLOSS is a pop-up exhibition presenting the work of four emerging artists, combining the disciplines of performance, video, sculpture and installation.
GLOSS is proud to be showing new work from the four exhibiting artists and this collaborative project draws on the recent ideas and concepts the artists have been exploring in their practice including themes of material, play and performativity.
Daniella Valz Gen’s practice involves mostly sculpture and performance. Physicality, movement and materiality are points of focus. Valz Gen is interested in our relationship to design, interior space, everyday objects, the body and the way we present it. But also how objects reflect cultural ideas and ritualistic practices. Performing is always a way of mobilizing, contextualizing and de-contextualizing at the same time, quoting, jamming, sampling and messing with ubiquitous material: From modernist aesthetics to pop music
Jo Harrison Mainly using drawing, sculpture or installation as a channel to bring her ideas to life, Jo Harrison explores form, space and the corporeal as central themes to her work, with an underlying subject matter of the body, our relationship to it and its surroundings. What interests her whilst she is making art is the physicality of an object or thing, its materiality and the process of its making. Harrison regularly involves very tedious and painstaking techniques in order to maintain the value of process as an integral component of her work. Working in both large and small scale, she attempts to access an essence of sublimity in some pieces that can transcend our familiar senses. Adopting tactile and ephemeral materials such as latex, wax, wool, and hair, her work reminds us of the bodily, and sometimes crosses the boundaries between our attraction/repulsion to an object.
Kate Mahony is an artist whose work stems from the translations from live experience to the document, especially in context with performance art and her ever increasing paranoia. The fear of having nothing to say fuels her practice of spoken word and performative gesture. Within her live works the spectator is integrated into the piece twisting the perspectives of who and what the performers role is. Mahony has exhibited in various pubs and gallery spaces including The Amersham Arms, South London Gallery, Angus Hughes Gallery, LUPA (Lock Up Performance Art) and Catlyst Arts Fix Ninth International Live Art Biennial Belfast.
Luis Ignacio Rodriguez’ art is concerned with approaching The Other. Can we really get to know anyone outside ourselves, or are we just re-interpreting others under our own light?
Conversely, is the individual a collection of the people’s readings of him or her, or is it the role we consciously or unconsciously play when under the gaze, or when we interact with others? Do we gloss over the corners of ourselves that we perceive might get in the way of acceptance, recognition, power, or love?
A practise concerned with connection and reaction cannot be comfortable within the constraints of the medium, but would rather utilise any conceivable form of communication, be it static or interactive; allowing for the time, space and participants of its performance to be part of the art work.
