'A modern day piece of visual art with a dark ‘Alice in Wonderlandesque’ feel.'
What is this project?
Inspired by a whirlwind of thoughts, this project will develop an original artistic idea and create a truly beautiful, dance for camera, experimental art film based on the concept of ‘Fragments’. All aspects of production will be taking place within the next couple of months and into the New Year with the completion date aimed for end of January.
What's the film synopsis?
Set at night in a country garden location and with an original soundtrack by two talented singer/songwriters, this short film is set to be whimsical and visually striking.
Focusing on a single female figure, the film follows the dancer as she metaphorically spirals in to a dream-like state. Fragments of her imagination, her memories and her emotions surround her as she moves through the space. These fragments reflect her world breaking apart.
Dancing her way through the dark, she is led by lanterns, which illuminate the imagery around her. Dressed mannequins and floating feathers are amongst the fragmented images, symbolising her frailty and femininity.
Why are we making such a film?
Thousands of people love dance and thousands more love film. There isn't enough out there that combines the two art forms! My hope is to bring film lovers, dance lovers and everyone in between together to experience a film without a straightforward narrative but with plenty of heart. 'Fragments' aims to bring new light and life to dance for camera and visual art film.
The owners of the film location have kindly allowed use of their architectural garden free of charge. Every summer these gardens are open to the public in order to actively raise money for charity. It is a hope of mine as the director that my film will help expose the wonderful location and bring it more charitable visitors. This is merely an extra incentive.
Who's involved?
A small team of creative and dedicated people (all volunteers) handpicked for their spirit, their passion and their talent. We have the crew, now all we need is an army of wonderful people willing to support the making of the film by funding the project so that we can get it on the festival circuit.
Your Support:
Your support is so important to every aspect of this project. Without it we will not be able to get it off the ground. Your funding will help to purchase the multitude of props & costumes needed to create such an artistic film. We need mannequins, dresses, feathers as well as a large number of battery operated lanterns and lights (with a plentiful supply of spare batteries) to be able to film at night and portray a whimsical visual. I estimate that £300 is needed for this. In order to persuade a talented dancer to perform at night in the cold it will be necessary to offer her travel expenses, and refreshments for her and the crew. Approximate estimate for this is £100. Lastly, but just as important, the rest of the funding will go towards festival entries (including dvd disk purchases, p&p charges and festival insurance). Entry fees can range from £10 - £80 and as you can imagine this soon mounts up. We need £500 to be able to enter into a wide range of festivals and get maximum exposure for the film.
