Five Kinds of Silence has had the honour of being selected from over 100 productions seen for one of only thirteen places at this year’s National Student Drama Festival. Our committed company are thrilled at the chance of performing this unique and exhilarating show on a national platform. The original radio play, virtually bereft of stage directions, was conceptually a blank slate for the company. The final work is the result of an intense period of rehearsal giving rise to harrowing soundscapes, darkly moving monologues and movement sequences, the exciting fusion of forms truly bringing a static but highly lyrical script to life on stage.

The National Student Drama Festival is unique opportunity for our entire company. It takes place for one week in Scarborough, where the thirteen student productions that the selectors deem most exceptional are performed to over 800 young people and industry professionals. In between the student shows, 120 workshops are lead by a host of industry specialists and companies, which this year will include the RSC and the National Theatre of Scotland. The works presented are evaluated through reviews and a feedback discussion where a 400-strong audience offer comment or ask questions about the production. For our company it represents a unique means to receive advice, support and networking opportunities that could make or break a career in one of today’s most competitive industries.

Any contribution you can give will help us take this darkly beautiful and moving production to the wider platform it deserves
