.....an Elizabethan epic written by Thomas Heywood in 1599 (friend of William Shakespeare)
It is a fantastic piece of theatre, rarely performed and a real romp involving swashbuckling captains on the high seas led by Bess Bridges, landlady of Fowey’s Windmill pub. This courageous Cornish lass turns to piracy complete with doublet and hose and a mission to find her lover who has been captured off the coast of Spain. Accompanied by live music, this adventure will open in Exeter and run for two weeks before transferring to London for a one week run.
Creative Cow is a professional touring theatre company founded in 2007 by three professional theatre practitioners: two professional actors (Jonathan Parish and Katherine Senior) and a skilled artistic director (Amanda Knott). The company is called Creative Cow because it was conceived on a cattle farm in Devon where productions are managed and rehearsed before touring.
Creative Cow tours two productions a year and produces one production in Exeter each summer. To date we have toured 9 productions and produced two summer seasons, one of which was a repertory season including The Private Ear and The Public Eye by Peter Shaffer, The Lover Harold Pinter and The Knack by Ann Jellicoe. Last year Creative Cow brought a rare Devonshire romp to the stage in the shape of The Farmer's Wife by Eden Philpotts.
Creative Cow receives no public funding and relies on Box Office revenue.
We hope you or perhaps a friend may be interested in backing this project.

  1. Pledge £20 or more

This £20 will hire us a pair of breeches for one of the pirates!
In return we will credit your generosity by listing your name on the website (if you wish).

  2. Pledge £50 or more

This will cover the hire cost of a pirates sword...! A must in this 16th century epic aboard pirate ships...
In return you will receive the above plus your name in the programme (if you wish) and a copy for you to keep, signed by the company.

  3. Pledge £100 or more

Well, this could get us so many things... a fight director for a day, which without, it will be half the show it should be....so this donation could help create the first sword fighting scene in the play between a dashing lover and a drunk sailor! Surely one not to miss...
In return you will receive all the above AND two tickets to the show.

  4. Pledge £250 or more

So..... the next fight scene will be completed AND the actors will be fully equipped and robed for the job in hand...!
This pledge could also create a large part of the stage-set itself, like the giant jacobean tables we have in mind...
In return you will receive all the above AND two drinks with the cast after the show AND one of our innovative posters of your choice (see http://www.creativecow.co.uk/productions1.htm for poster choice)

  5. Pledge £500 or more

This would be incredible....the Elizabethan costumes for the piece is one of the most important factors- they have to be top notch- this would cover the hire of half of them.
It would mean we have the entire play choreographed by the skilled fight director. We will be able to take the production to London, which in turn will give the company its much needed promotion.
In return you will receive all the above AND a day with the company in rehearsal.

  6. Pledge £1000 or more

Well, blimey the real cows on the farm won't believe this!
This kind of support would crown The Fair Maid of the West- it will enable us to work alongside talented musicians who will significantly add to the atmosphere and authenticity of the play.
In return you will receive all the above AND whilst at rehearsal with the company, should you desire, you will be invited to pick up a sword, take part in the scene and become an Elizabethan pirate for the day - perhaps a secret ambition for some of you....?!
