Human Hand and SEArED, in association with The Amber Foundation and Project Scotland present The Ducks by Michael Mclean
The Ducks will have its world premiere at The Pleasance Upstairs in the famous Pleasance Courtyard as part of The Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011.
As UK youth unemployment reaches the million mark, The Ducks presents a darkly comic look at the potential consequences of leaving two jobless young men alone to their own devices. Plagued by miscommunication and fuelled by loss, lonliness and beer, the evolving power struggle threatens to unravel their fragile connection with horrific consequences. A fast paced, one act, dark comedy set in Northern England. From fast-rising young writer Michael McLean (Royal Court, Paines Plough, Liverpool Everyman). Brand new theatre company Human Hand combine forces with SEArED, co-producers of last year's sell-out hit 'Pedestrian' (***** Whatsonstage, **** Scotsman, **** Time Out, **** Three Weeks, **** Fest).
The Ducks is presented in association with prominent charities, The Amber Foundation, and Project Scotland who strive to support jobless young adults and heighten awareness of the nation’s youth unemployment problem. We hope to use our time in Edinburgh as an opportunity to raise the profile of both charities and the valuable work they do, whilst also heightening awareness of the worsening problem of youth unemployment in the UK today.
As part of our time in Edinburgh we will be:
• Working together with young people from The Amber Foundation and Project Scotland:
- facilitating devised workshops based around the play
- giving workshops based on careers in the arts industry
- providing day placements to help give an insight into the logistics of running an Edinburgh show
• Donating all proceeds raised through charity collections after every performance to The Amber Foundation
• Promoting The Amber Foundation and Project Scotland through all our online, paper and verbal marketing
This is a fantastic opportunity to bring two prominent unemployment charities together united in a common cause and encourage and facilitate a working collaboration between young people in Scotland and the South.
The money you donate will help fund our marketing budget, an integral and important aspect of not only ensuring the show’s success in Edinburgh, but aiding the wider exposure of The Amber Foundation and Project Scotland. By donating you will provide us with the opportunity to fully realise our plans for the show and its on-going relationship with both of these charities.
This fast paced, one act, deliciously dark comedy brings together some of the most exciting creative talent in the country while centring on a resonant theme. Any amount you can offer us in support of the project will be hugely appreciated by everyone involved.
