Dry Ice is my first solo show, which combines lyrical poetry with theatre, music and movement.
Dry Ice will be on at The UNDERBELLY in Edinburgh from 4-28 August 2011 as part of the Fringe Festival. I think it is an important show to be there because if I didn't then that would be worrying and also because I think it sheds a new light on a world that spends lots of time in the shadows, gives a loud, lively voice to some under-represented ones and stylistically challenges notions of performance poetry and theatre. I also think it is a bit funny.
It's about a stripper (Nina), because I worked at a strip club for 5 years and I have too many stories to tell to fit them onto a page. Having said that, Dry Ice is not a strip club expose. It's a story of a young girl trying to find her place in the world and so it becomes a story about reality; illusion; hope; disappointment; sex; power and the voyeur in all of us.
I ended up quite liking this young woman and all of the other 18 characters, in their own strange ways. I hope you do too.
As excited as I am to be part of the EdFringe, my bank is not sharing the enthusiasm. Your help in reaching this target of fundraising will ensure that Edinburgh will remain a beautiful place without me setting up home on its streets. It will allow me to add more music and magic to the show, including set, costume and lighting.
I realise there are millions of causes that could probably do more with your money, but there are also a lot more rubbish ones too (i.e.. - paying for internet porn is just weird; coffee is bad for your heart; when did you actually last go to the gym - you get the idea). I will be so grateful and as you can see you will be rewarded richly for your support at the time in my career where I will always remember it, because I'm too poor not to.
Thank you so much.
