DANNY AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
A play by John Patrick Shanley
Directed by Che Walker
With Jonathan Chambers and Clare Latham
25 OCTOBER - 19 NOVEMBER, 2011
Southwark Playhouse, London
It ain’t right to feel as much as I feel.
YOU WANT SOMETHING.
So what. Don’t you?
NO.
Liar.
Danny is a trucker who people call The Beast. Roberta is a troubled young mother with a teenage son that her parents must now raise. 'Danny and the Deep Blue Sea' is a darkly comic, romantic two-handed play about two of society's loneliest rejects who meet in a bar, butting heads and egos, and end up falling in love, all in one night. Written by acclaimed New York playwright John Patrick Shanley (Award-winning writer of 'Doubt'), ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea’ will be directed by writer/director Che Walker ('Been So Long', 'Flesh Wound', 'The Frontline'), and performed by Jonathan Chambers and Clare Latham.
"Two social misfits clash in a bar in the South Bronx on a Saturday night. This short play by John Patrick Shanley originially premiered in New York in 1984 but remains equally pertinent today, highlighting the sense of isolation that can affect people living on the fringes of an urban environment."

Graffiti Productions is a start-up theatre company; we have very little money, but plenty of passion for making theatre that grabs you by the heart and doesn't let go for a reason. We are extraordinarily excited about this production, and hope to launch the company into producing more work that packs a punch, which we have planned for next year. We need donors like you to help us get on our feet and give this uniquely beautiful play the full production it deserves.
Costs of running the show are small, but getting it to the fantastic venue of the Southwark playhouse for a 4 week run, generating materials to get others excited about the production, paying our director and well-deserving technical staff to help it run smoothly is where we need help. We have set our goal to raise £2,880 on WeFund, which would pay for two weeks’ rental of our performance space. Whatever you give to help our company would be profoundly felt. This is a play about anyone and for everyone; whatever your donation amount, you will be included lovingly in our programme as well as specially on our website: www.graffitiproductions.com.
We want to make the most of the opportunity to produce a brilliant play with a fantastic director in the best space we could find to perform it in. We are putting on this play because we love it, and believe that what it says and makes you feel, needs to be said and needs to be felt. Thank you so much if you are able to donate, and we look forward to seeing you at the show.
