"The great names of the future are cutting their teeth at The Alma" - Venue Magazine
Every year four student directors from Bristol Old Vic Theatre School take over the Alma Tavern Theatre for a month of new plays. It's a chance for them to flex their director muscles and put everything they've learnt into practice. Each play in the Directors' Cuts season is supported by a company of acting, technical, design, and marketing students.
This season features four stunning pieces by some of the best contemporary playwrights, exploring themes of family, violence, prejudice, and friendship.

This year we've formed a graduating students company and we're taking all four shows over to London for a packed week of Alma transfers (18th-23rd July 2011). We've been lucky enough to get a brilliant space at one of the city's most central and well known venues, The Trafalgar Studios. We'll be performing all four shows in rep for a total of twelve performances in what's looking to be a very exciting and productive week.
For the directors and designers, it's a chance to have their work seen by potential employers and to get their name out there. For the actors it's a great opportunity to invite agents, casting directors and industry bods.
We're looking for £4000 to help fund our transfer to the Trafalgar Studios. So where's that money going to go?
VENUE: We need to rent the Studio 2 Space for a full week including four matinees and we need to pay for the technical support team.
TRAVEL: We need to get our actors, directors and all our kit over to London for the shows.
PUBLICITY: It's really important to us that lots of people come and see our work. As well as marketing the show to agents and theatre people we'll need to sell our show to the general public to make sure we get the crowds our work deserves.
DESIGN: We've got a team of four student designers working on a showcase set capable of housing all four shows. We've not got long in the space so we want a set which allows us to switch between shows in under half an hour. We'll need materials and transport to get this to the venue.
All donations will be hugely appreciated by the members of the Directors' Cuts Company.
Many Thanks!
