The cause:

‘captivating, emotional and brilliant’ ***** ThreeWeeks

Blackout is a play written by Davey Anderson, directed and choreographed by Neil Bettles, and performed by James Buchanan, Daniel Cahill, Danielle Stewart, Joanne Thomson and Tom Vernel. The production won the coveted Arches Brick Award and was shortlisted for the Holden Street Theatre Award.

ThickSkin is a physical theatre company that produced this play for the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe. Following sell-out success, ThickSkin is touring its vivid debut production of Davey Anderson’s Blackout, in Scotland and Corby from 6th April to 13th May 2011. It’s already happening…. but you can still be an important part of it by helping us raise money to fund the running costs of the tour.

If you’ve seen the show before and want to be a part of helping us to tour, then show your support with a donation. If you’ve not seen it then please read on and hopefully you’ll agree that this is a worthwhile cause that your donation will help to make happen.

We need your help to make sure this work is shared with audiences far and wide. Blackout is an incredible story and a stunning theatrical experience that should be shared with audiences across the UK.

‘a beautiful piece of multimedia, multiform theatre’ **** The List

The production:

Blackout is a 45-minute smack in the face inspired by the true story of young offender from Glasgow who was charged with attempted murder at age 15. ThickSkin’s Blackout is directed by Neil Bettles (Artistic Director of ThickSkin and Creative Associate of Frantic Assembly) and performed by a five-strong cast of young Glaswegians. Their production brings this story to life with a mix of striking physicality and stunning video design.

‘the young cast form a tight ensemble in Neil Bettles’ visceral staging.’ **** What’s on Stage

Davey Anderson (former Director in Residence with the National Theatre of Scotland and Associate Director on multi-award winning production Black Watch, 2006) was originally commissioned to write Blackout by the National Theatre for its Theatre of Debate season and was presented as part of the New Connections Festival in 2008. The play was written with the support of Barnardo's Youth Involvement Project and developed with the support of the Citizens Theatre.

ThickSkin’s Blackout was developed at Platform in Easterhouse, Glasgow, where Davey Anderson first interviewed a teenager who had been charged with attempted murder at age 15.

‘a playwright whose work has never shied away from the realities of life in working class Glasgow.’ **** The List

The company:

ThickSkin creates fresh and exciting new work by combining design, music, movement and text. A company producing heart-stopping visual theatre, ThickSkin aims to unearth new talent and engage established artists in the creation of innovative work.

A hugely important aspect of ThickSkin’s work is to develop and showcase young artists, providing mentoring and a springboard for their professional careers.

‘hot on the heels of the UK's finest physical theatre companies.’ Time Won’t Wait
