‘a beautiful piece of multimedia, multiform theatre’ **** The List
The production:
Blackout is a 45-minute smack in the face inspired by the true story of young offender from Glasgow who was charged with attempted murder at age 15. ThickSkin’s Blackout is directed by Neil Bettles (Artistic Director of ThickSkin and Creative Associate of Frantic Assembly) and performed by a five-strong cast of young Glaswegians. Their production brings this story to life with a mix of striking physicality and stunning video design.
‘the young cast form a tight ensemble in Neil Bettles’ visceral staging.’ **** What’s on Stage
Davey Anderson (former Director in Residence with the National Theatre of Scotland and Associate Director on multi-award winning production Black Watch, 2006) was originally commissioned to write Blackout by the National Theatre for its Theatre of Debate season and was presented as part of the New Connections Festival in 2008. The play was written with the support of Barnardo's Youth Involvement Project and developed with the support of the Citizens Theatre.
ThickSkin’s Blackout was developed at Platform in Easterhouse, Glasgow, where Davey Anderson first interviewed a teenager who had been charged with attempted murder at age 15.
