We are a young, aspiring theatre company comprising past and current students from Warwick University. The company was founded by three graduates, now living and studying in London (Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, Central School of Speech and Drama). Over the last three years we have performed at various venues/festivals including Shunt, National Student Drama Festival, Pleasance (London), CAPITAL Centre Coventry and have won numerous awards for our acting, original live music scores and ensemble work. The production that we hope to tour to Edinburgh Fringe 2011 his August is Belleville Rendez-vous – the first stage adaptation of Sylvain Chomet’s highly acclaimed animation film. We performed this production for a four night run at the Warwick Arts Centre in February last year which received an overwhelmingly positive response both from fellow students and external theatre-goers.
The animation film Belleville Rendez-vous has a significant cult following. The writer and director Sylvain Chomet (also wrote/directed The Illusionist) has met a member of the company and confirmed his support for our theatrical interpretation. An excerpt from one of his emails -
''You've managed to have your own take on the poetry of my film...I felt a huge tenderness towards it... You can rely on my support for the rest.
Well done again and thanks to everyone!''
One of the biggest strengths of Belleville Rendez-vous is that it is accessible to all nationalities regardless of language. Very little theatre strives for this accessibility, especially in Britain, and we have considered this throughout the process as a goal we want to achieve both through our staging and our marketing strategies. We want to appeal to audiences of many nationalities with this work, and our future work.
