This August, Barefoot Opera will perform a new version of Handel’s Alcina at the Arcola theatre’s Grimeborn opera festival. Then they will transform their stage work into a feature film made with prize winning film maker Nichola Bruce. This project brings together talent from across the Arts. The composer Peter Foggitt will create a new score for this production which reimagines Handel’s music, dynamically blurring the boundaries between singers and orchestra and unleashing a refreshing ensemble spirit. Jenny Miller and Polly Graham direct a vibrant production which incorporates physical theatre, dance and improvisation, collaborating with movement coach Evelyn Miller Freebury. International soprano Penelope Randall Davis, mezzo Matilde Wallevik, accordian player Ian Watson, clarinettist Andrew Sparling and cabaret singer Krysia Mansfield are just some of the talents who are performing in this project. Opera as you’ve never seen it before!
Performances will take place on Monday the 22nd and Tuesday 23rd of August at 7.30pm. Check the blog for further updates!
Conducted by Rosie Midgley.
