THE PROJECT
We want to develop our piece ‘Ave A Banana : A Knees Up Through Time & Space and take it to Hoxton Hall in London on 4th May and to the Brighton Fringe Festival 5th-7th May 2011. Underbling & Vow specialise in singing through the dark times and bringing communities together through comedy and song. The show is an interactive sing-along journey along the pop superhighway from Music Hall to Grime via Marie Lloyd, the Sex Pistols and Dizzee Rascal to name a few.
This show debuted at the Edinburgh Festival last year and this year we will be including the reworked song suggestions of THE HOXTON HALL SELECT COMMITTEE; a group of young people, aged 18-26, from all over London who have chosen the show for the opening of Hoxton Hall’s Rebirth Season, this forms the first night of a small tour of our newly re-mastered piece.
THE SHOW
Four music hall time travellers; Nanna, Rosie, Beryl and Cyril take their time machine; a shopmobility scooter, powered by tea and gin along the space time continuum and up and down the pop charts in a comedy cabaret theatrical show. The audience are invited to singalong, heckle, dance and get involved and the song words are projected overhead.
The show is funny, inclusive, participatory and we believe has something for everyone. Our most recent audience at St Paul’s (The Actors Church) in Covent Garden included ranged from Billy aged 10, Esme 15, Tara 18, Alex 24, Jonathan and Pip in their 50’s to Norman and Mary who are in their 70’s.
We have been touring our sing along shows to theatres, bars, cabarets, festivals and parties all over London, Brighton, Manchester, Norwich, Southampton, Portsmouth - even the Isle of Wight. Underbling & Vow are Time Out’s Critics Choice ‘London’s Favourite Retro-Blitz Granny Rockers and at Edinburgh Festival 2010 Broadway Baby gave the show four stars **** ‘A Rollicking Laugh, The Good Ol’ Days Are Back!’
YOUR PLEDGE
Ticket sales only make up a small percentage of the costs of putting on this show so we are extremely grateful for any donation you can offer, a little (£2) will certainly go a long way and a top pledge (£1000) will give you your very own Private Knees Up! Many of our pledges include a ticket to a show - you could see this as your way of buying a ticket in advance for one of our shows.
