Regarding Pledges
Posted on 13/06/2011As far as WeFund goes, the sum we're asking for is quite large. There are bound to be people wondering why we're asking for so much to develop this game, so I wanted to dissect the project's financial goals here, where people can absorb and reflect on how this project will work.
Firstly, GBP 30,000.00 is not a lot of money to fund the development of even the smallest commercial electronic games, and we're certainly not aiming to fund the entire project with WeFund pledges. In fact, we've already invested capital from our own pockets into this project and this sum will merely help us realise our goal of creating a complete working prototype that can be demonstrated.
By the time this funding exercise is complete (in 24 weeks), we expect to have most of this development complete, and the pledges from the community will help support the next phase of the project, which will be the massively multiplayer element, including online networking between gamers and a community portal. It will also help to make the game richer by giving us additional time to augment the audio mixing part, which is essential to this game working well.
The entire funding we expect to put towards this project, before it's launch, is more likely to be at the 6-figure end than the 5-figure end of the spectrum. We didn't want to start asking for pledges until we had an internal prototype completed though, so we funded that through our day-to-day activities.
And, of course, some of the pledges are going towards providing rewards to those members of the community that support us during these early stages.
One final thing: if you do not feel as though you're in a position to make a pledge, then simply sharing this project with your friends, colleagues, family, etc. will help us tremendously, and we'd appreciate it.
As always, thank you for your time; I appreciate it.
