Meeting with Methuen

Tash speaking - Thursday 20th Oct - met up with Charlotte Loveridge, Commissioning Editor for Methuen Drama. She loves the script & we have a deal! We get a few hundred to sell during the run and the rest go to bookshops, including The National Theatre & French' & Amazon. Methuen have a highly proactive marketing machine that includes schools & colleges, as well as online distribution & North American sales. I called Toby as soon as I left, but he was deep in rehearsal for "Shalom Baby" at Stratford East. So I danced alone down a sunlit Tottenham Court Road, singing "Oh what a beautiful morning...", which shows my age.

We've had a lot of knock-backs with this play - rejections, re-writes, son of re-writes, grandsons of re- ...., (you get the picture), but in spite of all that, or maybe because of it, we kept the faith. Out of sheer pig-headedness. Out out of a real attachment to the characters and a desire to seem them live.
And it's paid off. Over the course of this year, we've found a brilliant director in Che Walker, a producer, Amanda Fairclough who has dog-with-a-bone persistence, (both totally committed to the play), as well as a wonderful home for the piece in Neil Mcpherson's award-winning Finborough Theatre, in Earls Court. Now "Fog" will be a Methuen play script. Ahhhh! (Big smiley face.)
